Yunlong Zhang received his BS degree in 1984, and MS degree in 1987, both in Civil Engineering from Southeast University in China. He received his Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1996.
Dr. Zhang's primary research area is traffic operations, including modeling and simulation of traffic flow, signal operations, and safety analysis, with a special focus on advanced theories and technologies such as data analytics, and connected and autonomous vehicle applications. At Texas A&M, he has published over 80 papers in leading transportation journals, and conducted sponsored research projects or other scholarly activities at the state, federal, and international levels on efforts to improve the efficiency of the transportation system. In addition to his many research accomplishments, he received multiple teaching awards including several prestige ones at college and university levels. He is the director of the Graduate Advising Office and Associate Department Head for graduate programs in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering. Currently he is on faculty development leave and is a specially appointed professor in the Transportation College of Southeast University in China.
